Groenning’s paintings are not narrative in a literal sense, but emotional. Instead of offering resolution for the viewer, the work creates space for uncertainty, vulnerability, and the parts of experience that are hard to name. He lets light erode form rather than define it, having bodies and environments dissolve into each other, painting figures that’s been caught between presence and disappearance.
