Groenning’s work is an extension of the human condition, focusing mainly on the mental health challenges affecting people, in the modern world. Through his work, he wants to transform this pain into something beautiful. His paintings are not narrative in a literal sense, but emotional. Instead of offering resolution for the viewer, the work creates space for uncertainty, vulnerability, and the parts of experience that are hard to name. He lets light erode form rather than define it, having bodies and environments dissolve into each other, painting figures that’s been caught between presence and disappearance.
